Next week on Emmerdale, guilt-ridden Cain abandons Moira in her hour of need.

1. Cain's conscience kicks in

Moira wants to throw Cain a surprise birthday party to celebrate his 50^th, but Matty isn't convinced she's well enough.

Meanwhile, Cain is consumed with his guilt over his forbidden tryst with Ruby.

Struggling with his conscience, Cain heads off for the night and lies to Moira about his whereabouts.

2. Cain abandons Moira

Moira is anxious when she fails to hear anything from Cain and delays her appointment at the hospital.

She makes a last-ditch attempt to get through to her husband, but he doesn't pick up.

Left to face her fears alone, Moira heads off to collect her pathology results.

3. Cain gets arrested

After hearing Moira's desperate voicemail, Cain finally comes to his senses. He tries to make his getaway, but finds his exit blocked by Jai's car.

En route he's pulled over by PC Swirling, but Cain is in no mood to chat. He turns on the copper in an aggressive manner and soon finds himself under arrest.

4. Moira drops a bombshell

Swirling takes pity when Cain asks to have the chance to speak to Moira over the phone. She's horrified to learn he's been arrested, but eases Cain's fears by revealing her results were fine.

It soon becomes clear Moira hasn't told Cain the full truth when she tells Matty she'll need radiotherapy. Heartbroken by the news, mum and son shed tears together.

5. Cain prepares to confess all

Cain is let off with a caution and heads to the allotment to drown his sorrows. He's found by Liam, who offers his support and takes Cain back to Butler's.

They're met by a furious Moira who reveals about the party and tells Cain he's got until tomorrow to pull himself together. Will Cain crack and tell Moira what's torturing him?

6. Anthony confronts Caleb

Anthony is horrified when Brenda lets slip about Caleb's affair with Tracy.

He confronts his son-in-law, but Ruby intervenes, defending both her and Caleb's actions.

Anthony is unconvinced by the couple's explanations, while Ruby is left unsettled by her father's continual prying into her life.

7. Secrets from Ruby's past are revealed

As Ruby takes another positive step towards a reconciliation with Steph, a comment from Anthony leaves her feeling uneasy.

In a special flashback episode, viewers are transported back to 1992 and Ruby's 16th birthday.

As she's seen getting close to fellow teen Rob, the audience will discover buried secrets from Ruby's past.

8. Ross feels pushed out

Ross is horrified to realise Moses is frightened of him, but acknowledges it's all his own fault.

Charity is adamant she doesn't want him anywhere near their son. Ross is defeated, and clocking the close connection between Mack and Moses, he gives up hope of reconnecting with the lad.

9. Jimmy issues Tom an ultimatum

Angel continues to privately show her support for Tom by persuading Jimmy to read his letter. She then emotionally blackmails her dad into seeing Tom in prison.

During the visit, Tom turns on the crocodile tears and is surprised when Jimmy promises to give him another chance if he changes his plea. But as Tom tries to shift the blame back on Belle, Jimmy walks away knowing he'll never change.

10. Angelica makes a big mistake

After warning Tom to stop scheming, Ollie makes a call to Angelica asking for her help with something.

The teen is persuaded into publicly posting a video which she hopes will help her cousin's cause. But how will Jimmy and Nicola react when they discover what she's done?

11. Will gets frustrated over Peter's delays

Returning from his break with Kim, Will catches up with Peter over their plan to take her down.

Will is ready to enact it, but is left confused when Peter reveals there's been a change of circumstance, regarding their mysterious third party.

Peter refuses to call their co-conspirator, telling Will he will just have to wait a while longer.

12. Will has a proposal for Kim

Will is wracked with guilt as Kim pledges to move on from their past troubles and make the festive season a magical one.

Acting on Peter's orders, Will surprises Kim with the suggestion of renewing their marriage vows on Christmas Day. She's touched by the romantic proposal, while Will's conscience pricks over the deception.
